Section 1: 4 movements

Center line definition

  1. Cross hands down
  2. Cross hands up
  3. Separate the hands
  4. Bring the hands back to the side


Section 2: 20 movements

Wrist power training

  1. Left vertical punch
  2. Thrust the hand open
  3. Bend the hand down, then level
  4. Bend the hand down, then level
  5. Bend the hand down, then level
  6. Bend the hand sideways, then straight
  7. Bend the hand sideways, then straight
  8. Bend the hand sideways, then straight
  9. Circle the hand
  10. Bring the hand back to the side

Repeat the above with the right hand


Section 3: 12 movements

Elbowing section

  1. Left vertical elbow
  2. Left vertical elbow
  3. Left vertical elbow
  4. Left thrusing hand
  5. Right thrusting hand
  6. Bring the hands back to the side

Repeat with the other hand


Section 4: 26 movements

Searching hand section (Man sau)

  1. Left searching hand
  2. Right searching hand
  3. Left searching hand
  4. Left bridge hand
  5. Left circling hand
  6. Left bridge hand
  7. Left circling hand
  8. Left bridge hand
  9. Left circling hand
  10. Left bridge hand
  11. Right palm up neck hit

Chopping section (Gan sau)

Section 6: 18 movements

Poking section (Bil sau / Biu sau)

  1. Left horizontal poke (side to center)
  2. Right horizontal poke
  3. Left horizontal poke
  4. Left palm up neck chop
  5. Left horizontal chop
  6. Left diagonal chop (slanting Chum sau)
  7. Right palm up neck hit
  8. Right circling hand
  9. Bring right hand back

Section 7: 10 movements

Grabbing section

  1. Double grabbing hand
  2. Left hooking punch
  3. Left palm up neck hit
  4. Left circling hand
  5. Bring left hand back

Section 8: 4 movements

Bending section

  1. Bend down and up
  2. Bend down and up
  3. Bend down and up
  4. Bring the hands back


Note: normally there are three additional elbow sections performed by most Wing Chun clubs (including ours). These elbow sections add another 36 movements to the form to make it 144 movements. I am speculating that since these extra elbow sections really add no additional new information to the form, that they are redundant. I think they were probably added by someone at a later date. With this theory, the first three forms all have 108 movements and they all have 8 sections to the form. Since numerology and a sense of order was important in the Chinese culture, I feel that the above sequence is close to being correct because nearly everyone's third form has the movements listed above.
