For Your Info: Yip Man's Students

Notes:

  1. Mr. Leung Sheung was the first student of the late Grandmaster, Yip Man.
  2. Mr. Lok Yiu was the second student of Yip Man.
  3. Mr. Tsui Sheung Tin was the third student of Yip Man.
  4. Mr. Wong Shun Leung was regarded as the "No. 1 fighter of the Wing Chun Style" when he was young. He challenged many fighters of the other Kung Fu styles during that period.
  5. Since the death of the late Grandmaster Yip Man, no one is recognized as "the leader or Grandmaster of the whole Wing Chun clan".
  6. Nobody is recognized as the so-called "No. 1 student of Grandmaster, Yip Man."
  7. The arrangement of the names from top to bottom DOES NOT mean the seniority of studentship.

This family tree was provided on 19 Oct 1985. It was signed off by the Hong Kong Ving Tsun Athletic Association on 19 Oct 1985. The people who signed it were Wong Shun Leung (Chairman), Leung Ting (Vice Chairman), Tong Chao Che (Vice Chairman), Lok Yiu (President), Yip Ching (Vice President), Ho Kam Ming (Vice President), Siu Yuk Man (Secretary), Chan Take Chiu (treasurer), Tsui Shang Tin (Membership management), Koo Sang (Membership management), Lee Wai Chi (Public Relation). This tree was sent to various magazines along with signatures of the committee members and a photo which shows Koo Sang, Wong Shun Leung, Lok Yiu , and Tsui Shan Tin in the front row. In the back row are Tong Chao Che, Leung Ting, Yip Ching, Siu Yuk Man, and Chan Tak Chiu. Later in 1990, the Hong Kong Ving Tsun Athletic Association came up with a much more comprehensive family geneology book. The book has numerous photos. It is quite apparent from the photos that Leung Sheung, Lok Yiu and Tsui Shan Tin were Yip Man's key assistants during the early 1950's.
